HUNTING SEASON

The prime hunting period, which is our winter starts in April until the end of October. In Autumn and Spring (April, May, September, October) the temperatures range from 60F to 90F, but cools down to between 40F and 60F during our winter (June, July, August). Remember that our animals are in rut from May to July.

RIFLES AND AMMUNITION

Before departure, all weapons must be declared at US customs. The document issued will be needed to bring your weapons into South Africa along with an invitation letter from Dumukwa Safaris.

On arrival at the Johannesburg International Airport your rifles will be inspected and you will be issued with an import permit for the duration of your stay. The laws governing international flight demands that rifles must be transported in lockable cases. Ammunition must be in the original container, also in a lockable case.

Required caliber for Plainsgame hunts is among the 30-caliber class (338, 300, 30.06, 375 or 7mm)

Required caliber for Dangerous Game is a minimum of 375 with 40 rounds soft nose and 40 rounds of solids.

Recommended bullets are Swift A-Frame, Trophy bonded Bear Claw or Barnes X.

Shots range from 70 to 200 yards.

BOW HUNTING

The best time to book your safari will be from the end of July until the end of October.  It is important to look at the moon phases to ensure better opportunities.

Recommended Broadheads are Muzzies, Thunderheads and Rocky Mountain Titanium with a weight of approximately 100 to 125 grain. Shafts should be carbon, aluminum or carbon aluminum composite.

For Dangerous Game two blade Broadheads are recommended with a minimum of 80-pound bow.

Average shots are from 15 to 40 yards from strategically placed blinds or on foot.
